The 30-year-old Filipino pride defeated the Mexican boxer in a title fight that earned him the WBO flyweight world championship title, the third of Viloria’s professional career.
Viloria landed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2 on board flight PR 101 from Honolulu, Hawaii where he won against Julio Cesar Miranda via unanimous decision last Saturday (Honolulu time) at the Blaisdell Center. The fight was telecast last Sunday in Manila via TV5 and Aksyon TV with primetime replay on AKTV on IBC Channel 13.
Last Sunday’s Honolulu boxing event was also a triple victory for the Philippines as two other Filipinos won in the undercard of two non-title bouts. Filipino light flyweight contender Denver Cuello reigned supreme over Puerto Rican Omar Soto; while Pinoy super featherweight Michael Farenas beat Mexican Fernando Beltran, Jr.
‘The Hawaiian Punch’ admitted that his quest for WBO flyweight crown was his toughest fight yet. Viloria will stay in Manila until Sunday as he does the rounds of guesting in several TV5 shows; including in reality game show Wil Time Bigtime and daily morning show Sapul sa Singko. He will also gamely watch the “Ultimate All-Star Weekend” presented by SMART and MVP Sports Foundation this Saturday. The weekend superstar showdown will be seen via TV5’s sports block AKTV on IBC-3.
